Retirement Planning
Saving for your future retirement.
It is easy to put off paying into a pension scheme. Most people think that retirement is ages away and therefore I have loads of time before I need to think about this. It is never too early to start contributing into a pension scheme.
Did you know that if you want to retire on a pension of £18,000, in today’s money, you would need a pension fund of approximately £450,000.00*.
This is based on purchasing a conventional annuity for a 65 year old male, married to a 62 year old female, both in good health, a 50% spouse’s pension, 5 year guarantee period and escalating in line with the Retail Price Index each year.
*figures taken from www.fsa.gov.uk/tables, on 16th April 2009 and based on a conventional pension annuity. These rates may have changed since this date and therefore P C Financial Ltd cannot be held liable if figures have altered.
There are a multitude of different pension vehicles available on the market, which is why we need to be sure that you are investing in the right one. Not only is the pension vehicle important, it is also the fund or funds you invest in. Just like any savings and investments.

What to do at retirement?
If you are 50 years old (55 from 6 April 2010) or over and looking to retire, then there are options to consider. Do you buy an annuity with your pension to fund your retirement, if so what type of annuity, with profits, unit linked or a conventional? Or do you enter into a drawdown vehicle. These are just a couple of areas to consider and again with most products, the options available can seem endless. This is why it is important that you fully understand your options and proceed on the basis that is right for you.
It is shocking that there are a lot of people coming up to retirement who do not know they can use an Open Market Option. An Open Market Option allows you to shop around for the best annuity and means you do not have to stay with your pension provider for the annuity.
As P C Financial Ltd are independent advisers we are therefore are able to research the whole market’s annuities and provide you with the best advice. Call us on 01603 211 624 to arrange an appointment.
